Welcome to Handshake. These Terms of Use govern access to the Handshake website, dashboards, forms, payments, documents, messages, and related services.
Using Handshake
You may use Handshake to request home-service help as a homeowner or to review and accept home-service leads as a provider. You agree to provide accurate information, keep your account secure, and use the platform only for lawful home-service matching activity.
Accounts
You are responsible for the information submitted through your account and for activity that occurs while signed in. If you believe your account has been used without permission, contact Handshake promptly.
Homeowner requests
Homeowners should describe projects honestly, including the service category, ZIP code, urgency, licensing needs, and contact preference. Submitting a request does not guarantee that a provider will be available or that a provider will agree to perform the work.
Provider participation
Providers are responsible for maintaining accurate business profiles, service categories, ZIP-code coverage, license and insurance information, and availability status. Handshake may require review of provider information before routing live leads.
Lead acceptance fees
Providers may be charged a lead acceptance fee before homeowner contact details are released. Fees, payment timing, and refund review rules are described in the Refund Policy.
Direct service agreements
Handshake is a matching platform. Homeowners and providers are responsible for discussing estimates, scheduling, pricing, permits, insurance, job scope, warranties, cancellations, and completion terms directly with each other.
Documents and verification
Provider documents are used for Handshake review and may include licenses, insurance certificates, or similar vetting materials. Providers must not upload false, misleading, expired, or unauthorized documents.
Reviews and communications
Reviews and messages must be truthful, relevant, and respectful. Handshake may remove content that appears fraudulent, abusive, discriminatory, illegal, or unrelated to a real customer experience.
Prohibited use
You may not misuse Handshake, attempt to bypass payment or matching rules, scrape the service, interfere with security, submit false information, harass users, impersonate others, or use the platform for illegal activity.
Platform availability
Handshake may update, pause, or modify features at any time. The platform is provided as available and may occasionally be interrupted for maintenance, security, or operational reasons.
Limitation of responsibility
Handshake does not guarantee the quality, safety, legality, pricing, timing, or completion of services performed by providers. Homeowners and providers remain responsible for their own agreements and decisions.
Changes to these terms
Handshake may update these terms as the service evolves. Continued use of the platform after an update means you accept the updated terms.
Contact
Questions about these terms can be directed through the contact or support channels available on the Handshake website or account dashboard.
